A cleaner river starts with a few hours, a pair of helping hands, and a group of people who care enough to show up.
On Friday, September 18, 2026, Hill City AquaZoo is heading beyond our walls and down to the James River for a morning of hands-on cleanup in downtown Lynchburg. From 9 AM to 12 PM, volunteers will work together to remove litter, protect local waterways, and help keep the river beautiful for the people and wildlife that depend on it.
We’re partnering with Lynchburg Water Resources for this special clean-up day, and we’d love to have you with us. You don’t need special gear or experience. All clean-up materials will be provided. Just bring your willingness to lend a hand.
And as a thank-you, every volunteer will receive a free AquaZoo admission pass.
Why the James River Clean Up Day matters

Volunteers should meet at The Canal Lot, where free public parking will be available. Registered volunteers will receive an information packet before the event with extra details, so you’ll know where to go, what to expect, and how to be ready for the morning.
